Stella Update

A lot of people have been asking for updates on our new English Bulldog puppy – Stella.

Here are some of the highlights…

  • She is growing everyday. She has easily doubled (possibly tripled) in size since we got her. The bigger she gets, the cuter she gets.
  • She is almost completely potty trained except for the occasional “can’t-hold-this-any-longer” accident. She is slowly but surely obtaining more and more freedom everyday.
  • She already has one trick in her arsenal. That would be “sit”.
  • The veterinarian we took her to said that she is a 10 out of 10 on every characteristic of an English Bulldog (flexibility, shape, size, underbite, breathing, etc).
  • She is in the biting stage. She still has those very sharp baby teeth but she’s working on getting those out. Problem is that she’s trying to get them out by gnawing on my hand.
  • Gaby and Stella are getting along great. Gaby does a great job of putting up with her. She let’s Stella bite her long ears and extra neck skin. She will play gently with Stella without hurting her.

Mommy and Daddy,

I went to the Vet today and got some shots.  He said I am really healthy and am ready to come home whenever you can come get me!  I can’t wait to see you.

Big Cromer Family News

The Cromer family is changing. Before your mind starts racing, we are not having a kid…yet. However, there is some big, important news regarding our furry kids (dogs).

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to the newest member of the Cromer family…Stella.

Stella is a pure-bred, registered English Bulldog who is almost 7 weeks old. Right now she is still living with her mother and siblings, but will be moving to Oklahoma City in the next couple of weeks.

With the addition of Stella, we had to make a tough decision. Our incredibly awesome pound dog Kate will be moving to Tennessee to live with my parents. This was a very difficult, bittersweet decision for Heather and I to make.

Here are all the factors & reasons for making this decision:

  • We have always wanted an English Bulldog. We weren’t looking for one, but an opportunity to get one from a great friend was too hard to pass up.
  • The combination of a Basset Hound with an English Bulldog is going to be awesome. There will be plenty of laziness, extra skin, and slobber in my house.
  • I refuse to have 3 inside dogs – especially 3 of the (how can I put this nicely???) plus size variety.
  • Kate loves the outdoors. She loves to run around free, chase stuff, and explore. My parents currently live in the middle of 22,000+ acres of woods. She will be in heaven.
  • Since living in Tennessee earlier this year for 6 months, Kate has developed a really aggressive personality towards other dogs. That is bad when you live in a neighborhood full of dogs and people who walk their dogs. She has gotten in 4-5 brawls already. We don’t want to be known as the neighbors with the uncontrollable, bully dog.
  • Kate freaks out around little kids. She hides and acts very strange around kids. Believe it or not, Heather and I are thinking about our future and the possibility of having kids in the near future. We can’t have Kate freaking out and attacking a kid because they insisted on being in her zone.
  • Kate will still be in the family and will be taken care of. There is no better place for her to be than with my parents. We wouldn’t have made this decision unless she could have gone there.

It has been a tough decision to make, but we are excited. We will be driving to Kate tomorrow and will be getting Stella in the next few weeks.

A big storm has been slamming the entire state of Oklahoma since yesterday afternoon. In the past 24 hours, it has been a steady flow of freezing rain, ice, sleet, and snow. There is a good chance that Heather and I will be snowed-in our house for the next two days.

With the reality of being snowed-in for 2+ days settling in, the question becomes what to do in this situation without being bored out of my mind.

Here’s my list of things to do while snowed-in…

  • Winter house cleaning – clean the entire house
  • Brush the dogs
  • Give the dogs a bath
  • Finally play my new Xbox 360
  • Watch everything saved on the DVR
  • Read a book
  • Watch LOST season 5 to prepare for next week’s season 6 premiere
  • Cut my hair
  • Creative cooking
  • FacebookTwitter like a mad dog
  • Take a nap
  • P90X workout

What else should I add to my list? What else is there to do when you are snowed-in?

Have you ever had an experience where something in God’s Word simply came alive? You know, those times in life where something happens that triggers one of those spiritual lightbulb moments and something in the Bible makes perfect sense?

I had one of those moments last week.

Kate (one of my awesome dogs pictured above) was having some stomach issues. Maybe she ate something that did not agree with her stomach. Maybe she was simply trying to drive me and Heather crazy. All I know is that she was throwing up all over our house.

Kate went into another room to vomit for the first round. Before we could realize what was going down, she had already started to lick up her own vomit. It was an extremely disgusting site. We sternly told her to never do that again. However, minutes later after round two, she was trying to lick up her own vomit yet again.

As I was cleaning up her vomit from our tile floor, all I could think about was Proverbs 26:11As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.”

As gross, stupid, and ridiculous as it is for my dog to lick up her own vomit, it is just as gross, stupid, and ridiculous for me to return to my life messes – my sins, my foolishness, my mistakes, etc.

Do not be like Kate. Sure, you and I probably are not going to lick up our own vomit. But we often keep returning to those sins that give us temporary satisfaction, keep making the same decisions that leads towards trouble and dissatisfaction, and keep returning to the same messes over and over again.

Let me encourage you with these words from Romans 8:37, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerers through him who loved us.”

Have you had any verses of the Bible come alive recently?

Have you had any spiritual lightbulb moments?

black-lab-puppies

Walking by a pet shop on his way back to school, a young boy stopped and stared through the window. Inside were four black puppies playing together. After school he ran home and pleaded with his mother to let him have one of the puppies. “I’ll take care of it, Mom, I will. If you can just give me an advance on my allowance, I’ll have enough money to buy one with my own money. Please, Mom, please.”

The mother, knowing full well the complications having a new puppy would bring to a busy household, could not resist her son. “Okay, you can get the puppy, but I will expect you to take care of it.”

“Yes, Mom, I will.” Filled with excitement, the little boy ran to the pet shop to buy his new puppy.

After determining that the boy had enough money, the pet shop owner brought him to the window to choose his puppy. After a few minutes, the young boy said, “Um…I’ll take the one in the corner.”

“Oh no,” said the shop owner, “not that one; he’s crippled. Notice how he just sits there; something is wrong with one of his legs, so he can’t run and play like the rest of the puppies. Choose another one.”

Without saying a word, the boy reached down, lifted his pant leg to expose a chrome leg brace to the owner.

“No,” he said firmly, “I think I’ll take the puppy in the corner.”

It turned out that what disqualified the puppy from being chosen by others is what most qualified him to be chosen by the little boy.

It’s amazing how few of us believe in the unqualified grace of God. Oh, yes, God loves us, as long as we’re clean and whole and fixed. But it turns out that what disqualifies you and me from “spirituality” – the mess of our lives and our crippledness – is what most qualifies us to be chosen by Jesus.

Heather and I will be traveling today to Nashville, Tennessee for the long Labor Day weekend. We are extremely excited because we get to see my parents, my sister, Heather’s mom, and our dogs (Gaby and Kate).

I probably will not be blogging a lot over the weekend. But there should be plenty of twitter and facebook updates. Follow me on twitter at…

Have a great weekend! Rest. Eat good food. Spend time with those you love. Watch some football. Enjoy life.

On Friday night, Heather and I had a chance to hang out with two amazing couples from NORTHchurch. We had a great night talking, laughing, swapping stories, and eating pizza at The Wedge Pizzeria. However, the highlight of my night was when Luke & Mackenzie’s English bulldog, Amos, came out wearing his protective eye-wear.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you THE DOGGLES
