I’m lost.
Not spiritually, of course. I am secure (and stoked out of my mind) that I am going to heaven. I hope you are going with me. If not, let’s do something about that, ok?
Back on topic…
I’m lost.
Recently, I have been finding myself locked up in confusion not knowing what to order at Starbucks. At one time in my life, the ordering process at Starbucks was automatic. “What can I get started for you?” the kind barista would ask. “Grande caramel frappuccino with no whip cream and extra caramel please,” I would quickly reply with a boyish grin.
Recently, that has all changed. Somewhere along the way, my staple Starbucks drink became too sweet. It was a good run while it lasted, but it became obvious that it is time for a Starbucks drink of choice change.
However, I do not have a clue where to start.
1. I do not understand over half of the Starbucks menu. I am not fluent in the Starbucks lingo. I am not sure the difference between a cappuccino, espresso, or latte. I have no clue what chai is. Ordering shots makes me think that I am sinning. The menu often looks like this to me…

2. I am not a hardcore drink straight black coffee kind of guy. I like the (as my Dad likes to call them…) “froo froo” drinks. When I go to Starbucks, I pretty much want a liquid dessert.
I need your help.
I am having a Starbucks crisis.
What is your favorite Starbucks drink? Is there a drink you would recommend while I am in this Starbucks exploring stage?
If you want hot – White Chocolate Mocha
If you want cold – Mocha Frap or the Mint Chip Frap
Caramel Apple Spice. You won’t be disappointed.
Here it is…my first comment on your blog. I’m happy that it’s a comment dealing with the subject if coffee (one that is near and dear to my heart). My recommendation is a vanilla latte. This is what I get when I want something sweeter than black coffee, but not super sticky sweet. It’s basically coffee and milk sweetened with some awesome vanilla. Happy hunting!
Sorry, no help here. I drink coffee with half and half. I think Starbucks is a little too strong. Like Dad, I don’t do “froo froo”.
Hard to go wrong with the Chai tea latte. It is even pretty good as is gets down to room temperature.
Brian! Hilarious picture, by the way!!!!
The differences as far as I can tell you off the top of my head. A latte is milk and espresso. A cappuccino is 1/3 milk, 1/3 espresso, and 1/3 foam. (thereby making it more foo-foo than a latte) (Pastor Clint says foo-foo, by the way, not froo-froo. I always thought it was frou frou, which, go figure, I’m pretty sure is a French term…ya sooooo not worth the wiki but somebody might wanna look it up…..)
I don’t know who Will is (Warfel?) but have to second his rec about the vanilla latte. Just about everything else that has a shot of syrup tastes like a sugar bomb or like you just got super-rich hot cocoa.
Finally (I know this is long but the bean merits verbiage….) If I were you I’d go to Vintage on 150th off Western, and say, “Tell me what I want.” They make it fun–hot or cold? big or small? sweet or not? do you like cinnamon? etc. and then they’ll tell you what you might like!
(All hail the local Java Lords; especially when they, unlike the King of Bucks, have a buy 5 get 1 free card!!!!!
)
Definitely White Chocolate Mocha. It’s incredible. Can’t go wrong. Enjoy
Thanks for the overflow of comments.
I have a lot to process. I like cold drinks more than hot drinks. However, I like a hot drink when it is cold.
Here’s a list of all the things that I have tried during my experimenting stage…
ICED CARAMEL MACCHIATO
ICED CHAI LATTE
CHAI FRAPPUCCINO
ICED WHITE CHOCOLATE MOCHA
I will definitely be trying some of your suggestions…White Chocolate Mochas, Chai tea lattes, caramel apple spices, and mint chip fraps are in my future. Possibly even a trip to Vintage to get some cinnamon goodness.
I have a Tripple Venti Caramel Machiatto with extra caramel drizzel and 2 splenda about 2 x’s a week … they’re up to 5.36 now uggh!
I also have a Venti Pumpkin Spice Latte when it’s cold.
I have several favorites depending on my mood…the best morning time drink is a vanilla latte with toffee nut 1/2 and 1/2 on the pumps. That drink makes me smile when I drink it! The best dessert coffee hands down has to be a white chocolate mocha and starting in the fall make it a peppermint white mocha, but ask them to go light on the pumps otherwise it does get too sweet. (Another bonus of 1/2 and 1/2 pumps is they don’t charge you for extra syrup which is usually like 30 cents!!) And finally, the pumpkin spice latte…great for any occassion. Those are my top recomendations. Let me know what you think.
Oh and if you want to make any drink better…but also super fattening, make it breve!
London, I have NO CLUE what breve is?!?!?
You can’t go wrong with a HOT rooibus tea with steamed milk. delicious. and i agree with Jen! Go to Vintage and tell them what your looking for and they whip it up for you, and you may even get something named after you. Jessica Morris did. WE told them she was diabetic and then what she liked in a Hot drink and they made a “Jessica Latte” for just her. it’s not on the menu, but she can walk in and say, “Jessica Latte” please, and they know what to make her. i’ve done this many times @ Vintage and they have made great drinks for me. Some I love and some I just like.
