Two weeks ago, Heather and I started the P90X workout. For the next three months this 6-day a week workout that specializes in “muscle confusion” will be pushing our limits and kicking our tails. Through two weeks, we have not missed a workout.
Top 5 things I have learned about P90X after two weeks…
5. P90X is not for the casual worker-outers. This workout is hardcore. It takes time (a minimum of one hour per day for six days a week). It also requires a certain level of physical fitness. It takes commitment. If you are extremely out-of-shape and not used to working out, P90X is not for you.
4. This joker is insane…

P90X guru – Tony Horton
3. P90X is extremely heavy on pull-ups. This workout really targets and prioritizes back workouts. A pull-up bar is essential for the workouts. If you do this workout, get ready to do a high number of pull-ups.
2. I am sore all the time. P90X specializes in “muscle confusion”, which is supposed to keep your body from getting used to any routine of workouts. I figured that I would be sore through week one. However, being sore throughout week two relinquished any doubts. Because you are supposed to perform every set to failure, you will consistently push yourself and maintain the soreness.
1. Brian Cromer and yoga do not go together. For starters, the P90X yoga workout is an hour and a half (brutal). You stretch, twist, lean, bend, and balance in ways that I did not think was humanly possible. It is not relaxing. You sweat. You work. On top of all that, I am probably one of the most inflexible people on the planet. If someone could set up a hidden camera in my living room that is pointed directly at me during the yoga workout, that video would be a youtube sensation within hours. Ninjas would struggle with this workout. So would Chuck Norris.

On another note, I am super proud of Heather. Like I said earlier, this workout is hard. She is kicking butt, pushing through the soreness, and sticking with it. Good job Heather Jean!
Thanks dear. I appreciate the props, but why did you have to call me Heather Jean?
Did this workout for a month and a half about a year and a half ago then hurt my shoulder. It actually really made me mad because after that happened I didn’t want to start over again. It is the hardest and most strenuous workout I’ve ever done…I’m impressed that you’ve both made it this far and wish you all the luck with the rest. Question though…are you gonna take the week off they give you at the end of 3 weeks or do the extra stuff they offer?
Josh – that really stinks. Did you get hurt BECAUSE of P90X or did you just get hurt because of something else? As for the week off, we are going to follow it to a t. We will do whatever it says. I was reading the book and it says that you will still do stuff for 6 days (yoga, core synergetics, etc). It just gives you a week break from the lifting part of the workout.
Bri, Great stuff bro! Go Yankees! Go Heather and BC!
First of all congrats to you all, ive been doing it for a week now and i love it. I just have a question and i think you might be able to help. I am borrowing it from my uncle. When I got the workouts he did not give me the nutrition plan or the guides so I don’t quite understand what am I suppose to be doing.
I have 2 questions.
1. What order are you suppose to be doing these workouts in? do you do all 12 excercises in order then start over after day 12 and keep doing that, or is there a specific way?
2. What is the difference in The P90X Lean, P90X,P90X Doubles , and what are there workouts
If you could help me I’d greatly appreciate it.
Hi Madison –
My husband and I just started P90X two weeks ago – we tried starting it at the end of November, and got so busy with the holidays we had to take a break. I can tell you the order for the first three weeks of the “Lean” program:
Day 1: Core Synergistics
Day 2: Cardio X
Day 3: Shoulders and Arms with Ab Ripper X
Day 4: Yoga X
Day 5: Legs and Back with Ab Ripper X
Day 6: Kenpo X
Then you start something else for week four, and then another set of exercises after that. This should at least get you started!
The different programs deal with what kind of results you want. I want to tone up what I have, so I am doing the Lean program. If you want to bulk up, you do a different program. Try the beachbody.com website – they might have some information!
Brian – I came across your blog when I googled “P90X Yoga” and saw your pictures. I’m just impressed you can do those poses without grimacing – nice work!
I googled P90x yoga and your blog came up! First and foremost thanks for the hilarious pictures of the yoga poses secondly, I am on week 6 and see great results but I still don’t like the yoga!!! I love plyo, kenpo pretty much everything but yoga!! any suggestions on how to get through it. Besides suck it up and do it LOL. So far my husband and I have done about 40 minutes of the video each time! Thanks:)
Kudos to you both. P90X is a wonderful program and it does work. You have a success partner in each other so you can make this work for you. Always remember that the journey is more mental than physical. You do want to take a recovery formula after working out. I always tell folks to also ensure that you have everything ready before you start, i.e equipment, shopping list, workout area, and workout time. This way you have no excuses to stop after you start. I also found that if you are trying to lose weight, it makes sense to weigh yourself on day one and put the scale away until day 30, and then do the same until day 60 and then again on day 90. If you stay focus and trust in your dieting, you will shed the pounds. Heck I dropped 30 pounds and most of it dropped in the last 60 days. I think scales can be depressing and motivation buster.
I too am doing P90x, finished my 2nd week and feel great. The soreness in week 1 was about a 10/10, week 2 it was more in the 2-3/10 range much more manageable. I highly recommend using Whey protein shakes post workout, they help so much in muscle recovery and soreness prevention. I also would say don’t rely on the scale as a measure of success because you could be losing fat but building more lean muscle mass at the same time so while your overall weight isn’t dropping, your still shredding fat and getting buff! Don’t set rediculous goals like (I must lose 10 lbs in the first few weeks, ect..) because then your more likely to get discouraged and quit. The mirror is my measure of success and I can already see results after just 2 weeks, it’s simply insaine! I will keep pushing play and can’t wait to see the 90 day results, this program works plain and simple. Oh and I absolutly HATE yogaX, why did they have to make it 1.5 hours? Thats rediculous.
