Here is the question of the day that I need your help answering: What Halloween candy do Heather and I need to get to give the trick-or-treaters on Friday night?
We have already initially purchased our trick-or-treat candy but it was demolished by a group of teenage guys who came over to watch the Tennessee Titans defeat the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night.
We should be making our Halloween Wal-Mart run in the next 24-36 hours and we want to do it right. We want to be known as a house to go to for trick-or-treat. We want to be known as a house that gives good, quality candy.
What is the best Halloween candy in your book? That’s what we want – the best. Whether it is the mini Snickers, 100 Grand, or Skittles, our desire is that the kids’ eyes light up at the sight of our candy bowl and the desire to try to fool us by coming back for seconds pops into their heads.
I am not interested in buying the generic bag of assorted candy for $0.99 or those generic, chewy, mystery Halloween candies that come in either the black or orange wrapper (you know what candy I’m talking about?). To make it clear, I am looking to give away candy and nothing else. No pencils, no unwrapped candy like candy corn, no nutrigrain bars, no apples, no fruit of any kind, no old canned goods, etc.
So I need your help to make 900 Barbara St the house to go to for trick-or-treat bliss. I am actually willing to crack open the wallet (shocker for some, I know) and provide the good stuff this year. Or at least get some candy that Heather and I will enjoy eating the leftovers (come on, you know you do the same thing)!

Happy Birthday Lesley. Welcome to the 30s. I’ll be there in less than 3 years.

UPDATE OCTOBER 30, 2008, 3:40PM – Heather and I have made our final decision and purchased our trick-or-treat candy. We stepped up this year. We went with FULL-SIZE candy bars. I can’t tell you exactly what we got, but I will say that they are name brands and very delicious. Get to 900 Barbara St early this year folks.

I would go with the sweet/chocolate route. Meaning stick with snickers, twix, the assorted hersey’s, and then add the sweet of skittles and starburst. Oh and I would throw in the assorted tootsie roll bag, you know the one with the regular tootsies as well as the flavored ones, there is lemon, lime, orange, and vanilla. The flavored tootsies were one of my favorites, you mix the lemon and the lime together at once = awesome. But whatever you do stick with the name brands. Nobody wants that mystery orange and black wrapped stuff like you were talking about. Oh, and candy corn makes me puke. Why does anyone buy that stuff. Another thing to stay away from is the generic bubble gum. You know the little pink gum in the yellow wrapper whose flavor last for about 2 seconds and then you want to spit it out, and in that 2 seconds of chewing you manage to either bite your tongue, lip, or inside cheek about 12 times. Man I hate that stuff. Give me gum that lasts. Well those are my suggestions. Stick with the name brand and you can’t go wrong!
Don’t do Mini’s. Everyone does that. KING SIZE it!!!! Kids will definiely light up if you are giving away KING SIZE Snickers, Butterfingers, or Twix.
I think it’s time to introduce a new generation to Charleston Chews.
Oh, I like Jorge’s idea! Give kids full size candy. That will make your house memorable for sure.
Well…
Bailey and Brad say Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups…
Zackery loves Skittles…
and I would go for the Snickers.
Sounds like peanut butter and chocolate combo’s win out at our house!
We’ll be by on Friday to see what you’ve decided.
Yuck….those orange and black candies are the WORST! This is really sad….but I still remember the houses that gave away full size candy bars. I also remember the family that gave away muffin cups full of pennies—lame. However, I think fun size would definitely be the most appropriate (not the teeny ones–those are lame). Here would be my top 5, in no particular order:
1. Snickers
2. Reese’s (remember, not the tiny ones–at least the single cups)
3. Kit Kat
4. Butterfinger
5. Twix
Good candy, but not recommended (by me)
1. Skittles
2. Starburst
3. Sweet Tarts
4. Tootsie Rolls
5. 3 Muskateers
Thanks for all the suggestions…Heather and I will definitely take them all into consideration when we make our candy run today. As of right now, we are leaning towards going with full-size candy bars (not sure which kind though).
If you are doing KING size Reece’s PB Cup ( the ones with 4 cups in a package) – It would be tempting to drive back from Keller to make a couple stops at the Cromer house Friday night…
Happy belated to the big sis!!!
That’s Right!
Braden & Reed are looking fw to meeting their Uncle Brian.
