When going to another country, you should always expect changes from your cultural norm. You can almost guarantee that your comfort zone will be stretched like crazy in some way. When I and the group of 23 people that I traveled with went to China over a month ago, to say our comfort zones were stretched would be an understatement. Nevertheless, we had an amazing time, met some incredible people, and ate some (what we considered) unusual food.
As I left my China experience, I had one regret. I did not take a picture of what I considered to be the craziest food we ate in China. I wanted to share it with you so bad. However, thanks to modern technology like digital cameras and the Internet, my great friend (Carol) took a picture of this crazy food and emailed it to me. So without further introduction, I give you…
CHICKEN FEET!!!

I think it looks a lot like ET’s hand. Imagine ET pointing towards the sky and creepily saying, “HOOOOOOOME!”
was it any good?
Since my return stateside, I’ve been informed that there is a fleet of cargo planes that bring over random stuff from China for Walmart, and return full of leftover chicken parts (like feet, beaks, etc.) that the americans don’t want. We want cheap stuff, they want food. So that pretty little foot might very well have grown up in Arkansas.
Crazy, huh?
when we were in San Fran we went to Chinatown and our tour guide Linda Lee took us to what a chinese market would look like and we saw fish that had just been cut in half still flopping and people buying them with the guts hanging out because they were fresh! and I saw chicken feet and all that good stuff
I thought it was awesome but then we went to eat lunch and I was scared to eat anything because all those images were running through my head lol
Sarah – it was ok. Not much meat, you just pretty much gnaw the skin off the bone.
Mel – didn’t have a clue about that. They definitely don’t waste any part of the chicken.
Vic – I will be seeing Chinatown in New York City next week. I’m excited.
wow that does look like ET’S hand and that would just be freaky if he said that! but i havent seen that movie in a while i used to own it though! yeah that will be cool to see china town1 hope you have a blast! love ya
what are those little bumps all over it? it looks sick but i’d want to see what it tastes like
Em – those bumps are over it are spices.
Wow…ok, I think I would have to be STARVING to consider eating ETs hand! I have eaten dog though (didn’t know until afterwards). Yep, it tasted like dark chicken meat.
Thats crazy…we eat some different stuff but the actually claw of the chicken…now that would be a first….
oh okay cause i didn’t know what that was it looked like warts or something
gross
um….ew.
