I have had a really busy summer. I have been out-of-town on four trips (IMPACT summer camp, Sulphur Springs Workcamp, Oklahoma City mission trip, and China leadership camp) totaling six weeks.
Something that every trip this summer has had in common is the fact that I have been able to play dodgeball at every event. Each trip has had its own unique dodgeball games – IMPACT had the rage-in-the-cage dodgeball (see picture), SSWC had the Jedi dodgeball, OKC had the incredible all-ages dodgeball ministry, and China had the Braveheart-like battle scene dodgeball. All have been fun and memorable.
I love to play dodgeball. I have a pretty good arm (after playing baseball my entire life and also spending a considerable amount of time on the pitcher’s mound, I should). Even at 27 years old, I still have some bullets left in the ole’ gun. I am also adept and knowledgeable of the 5 D’s: dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge.
NOW IT IS TIME TO CONFESS…
I have grown to love playing dodgeball. Is it because I love competition? No. Is it because I enjoy the battle-like atmosphere and combination of power and agility needed to be successful? No.
The real reason I love to play dodgeball so much is because I get to throw balls as hard as I can at the students in my youth group. It feels so good to pelt my teenagers with fastballs. Dodgeball is an amazing way to release any frustrations you have in a healthy way that they (get this) ENJOY! My teens love getting drilled by me and they love trying to hit me.
If you are a youth pastor, youthworker volunteer, teacher, or a mom or dad, I recommend playing dodgeball with your students. What a great way to legally throw things as hard as you can at your kids!
Dodgeball…what a great game!

Hmmmm….legally throwing things as hard as I can at my kids sounds like fun! hahaha…just kidding! I’m sure they would enjoy pelting me with a fastball too!
Jedi Dodgeball…..Interesting picture that phrase conjured up! I have a friend in a league back home, he’s crazy about it.
Really? I mean really?
Wow, talk about abusive…
Well I kind of would like to pelt you pretty hard once or twice, but you CANNOT hit me back!!!
Here’s the deal, Mackenzie…
Me playing dodgeball is like an “on/off switch”, not like a “volume nob”. On a volume nob you can control how loud and intense you get. That is not me playing dodgeball. There is only two levels: on and off. So what I am saying is that you are more than welcome to get on the court with me and try to hit me, but there is no guarantee that you won’t be confronted with the ole’ heater. The way I look at it, you know what you are getting into once you step foot on the dodgeball court.
