Summer Blockbusters

Heather and I do not watch many movies in the movie theater. I will admit that the main reason is because I (and yes, I will take full responsibility on this one) am extremely cheap. It is so hard for me to pay two times for a movie when I can wait a few months and pay for the same movie one time. Don’t the movies understand Genesis 2:24 (where husband and wife become one flesh)? Because of that verse I believe that Heather and I should only pay for one movie ticket.

The second reason is because I have gone 27 years without seeing that movie. I can probably wait a few more months until it comes out on DVD to watch it. I am simply trying to practice the spiritual discipline of patience. Really it boils down to the fact that I am just super cheap. However, I could be worse. I could wait until the movies become the older, cheap rentals before watching them for the first time.

Anyways, with my cheapness combined with my crazy summer schedule, I have not been able to see one movie this summer.  All these summer blockbusters have come out: Iron Man, Indiana Jones, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Incredible Hulk, The Happening, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, and others I have probably missed.

Here is what I need from you: without giving the movie away, let me know what you thought of the summer movies you have seen so far. Good/Bad? Worth the two hours and money watching it? There are a lot of summer blockbusters that I really do what to see.

Give me some summer blockbuster thoughts and information.

    Okay let’s see.
IRON MAN: DEFINITELY A GOOD MOVIE IF YOU LIKE ONES LIKE X-MEN, ETC.
INDIANA JONES: I ENJOYED IT, EVEN AT MIDNIGHT.
PRINCE CASPIAN: I REALLY LIKED IT, WATCHED IT AT MIDNIGHT AS WELL.
    HULK: HAVEN’T SEEN IT.
DON’T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN: INCREDIBLY STUPID HUMOR. I SLEPT THROUGH THE MAJORITY OF IT.
THE HAPPENING: I’VE HEARD IT WAS GOOD.

NOTE: MOVIES THAT I SAW AT MIDNIGHT AND ENJOYED MEANS THEY MUST HAVE BEEN GOOD, BECAUSE THAT WAS TIME I COULD HAVE BEEN SLEEPING. :]

Daddy and I have seen Iron Man, Indiana Jones, and Narnia. They were all good (deserving of their 3 star ratings), but we could have waited until they came out on DVD, or until they come out on the movie channels we have on our DirecTv. I would like to see The Hulk (may wait until the DVD), Hancock, and Wall-E. I don’t like crude comedies; I’m more the “action movie” type. The movie I REALLY can’t wait to see is The Dark Knight (the Batman sequel). The first one, Batman Begins, is one of my favorite movies. I also don’t like R-rated movies. I can’t think of anything else that is supposed to be out this summer. If we don’t make the matinee price ($13-$14), it costs us $19-$20 for the both of us to go to the movies, not counting anything to eat or drink. Like you said, you can wait a couple of months and buy the new movie for that or rent it for a couple of dollars. But like Theresa said, we’re movie buffs, too. I love to see a big blockbuster (especially the action movies) on the BIG screen with the really GOOD sound. Besides, who do we have to spend our money on, now that our kids are all grown up and are self-sufficient–our grandpuppies? Love you guys!!!

i’ve seen them all except don’t mess with the zohan which i do not want to waste my time watching. lets see…

indiana jones: a good movie and i liked it alot, sometimes it was funny sometimes i was on the edge of my seat.

hulk: violent in some parts, had a good story and an awesome ending.

prince caspian: it was cool i liked it alot. i was intrested the whole time.

happening: kinda freaky in parts, it made me think.

All these movies i could have waited, but its not really my money that i am spending. haha but in the long run i guess it is anyways all good movies

oh yeah and i loved iron man, it was really cool. but you’ll just have to see it for yourself. haha

Iron Man- only one that we have seen. It would be ok to wait on that one until it comes out on DVD.

The new Batman on the other hand, looks worth the price of admission (for two).

Iron Man – Being a comic book nerd…this movie was the best comic book movie made so far in my opinion. Worth going to to see in theater.

Hulk – Also good comic book movie…much, much better than the first. Can wait til DVD.

Indiana Jones – Kind of hoakie but still a good flick…I’d wait til DVD.

Narnia – Good flick…didn’t like it as much as the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe but still a good movie. Also, could wait til DVD.

Don’t Mess with the Zohan – Is kind of funny…definitely wait til DVD.

The Happening – I have not seen this, but everybody’s opinion that I trust when it comes to movies have said that it is not very good…so I definitely will not go to the theater for this one.

By the way…I just started to read the blogs and I like them. Didn’t know you were such the penner! Haha…keep it up man. Later…

Good info guys – Iron Man seems to be the consistant #1 out of the bunch. That surprises me. I will probably be hitting up blockbuster pretty hard in a few months from what it sounds like.

Josh – awesome to hear from you. Thanks for reading.

QUESTION FOR EVERYBODY – Is there any movies that I have missed and totally forgotten about that I should check out? (And please don’t say “Sex and the City”!)

  9. briancromer says:

    What about GET SMART?

  10. Jan Cromer says:

Dad and I saw The Incredible Hulk today–good movie. I think I liked it better than Iron Man (which I thought was good, too). It had a really good ending–can you spell SEQUEL?

  11. briancromer says:

I thought THE INCREDIBLE HULK was already a sequel? Is it not?

  12. Josh Stuart says:

It kinda is a sequel to the other one but not really…different actors, story etc… It has a good ending and there are certain characters that show up along the way that a lot of people don’t know about unless you’re a big fan.

  13. Jan Cromer says:

First, there was the Incredible Hulk television series quite a while ago. Then, there was the first Incredible Hulk movie. This new movie is a remake. (It’s neat, because they show references to the past two Incredible Hulk endeavors in this new movie.)

  14. Faith says:

Get Smart was really good :) it was hilarious! that is a good one to see. I HIGHLY recomend that one!
